What is Magna Carta?

A Brotherhood of the Middle Ages in the Modern World

Magna Carta is a community of people united by their passion for the Middle Ages in all its forms: battle, armor, weaponry, history, architecture, and culture. We believe that the ideals of chivalry—valor, honor, and brotherhood—are not relics of the past but values that still have a place in the 21st century.

Our mission is to bring together people from all over the world and prove that history is not just something to be studied—it can be experienced. Through our own festivals and by supporting other medieval events, we create an opportunity for anyone to step into the past.

Where History and Combat Meet

Magna Carta stands at the crossroads of two worlds—historical reenactment and full-contact medieval combat—and takes the best from both.

From historical reenactment, we embrace aesthetic authenticity, the beauty of armor, costumes, and surroundings, and the grand scale of battles.

From the world of medieval combat, we take real, full-contact fights—no staged performances, only true strikes, demanding training, and real competition.

The Grand Tournament: Giostra di Giovanni

The main event of Magna Carta is Giostra di Giovanni, held every May in Livorno, Italy, as part of the Tuscany Medieval Festival. This tournament brings together warriors, reenactors, and medieval enthusiasts from around the world in an unforgettable celebration of history, battle, and chivalry.

Who Can Join Magna Carta?

Magna Carta welcomes both entire clubs and individual members who share our values and passion. But we are not just for fighters—spectators are just as much a part of this journey. Whether you wield a sword or simply wish to witness history in motion, Magna Carta opens its gates to all.
